Status/Recommendation: Use Today with Caution

This will always be a rather dangerous attribute. If people forget it is there and forget to change or update it as appropriate, it can easily decrease accessibility.

This is very useful for making "light box" areas modal (where the rest of the page is not available while the area is present).

For model windows, note that this attribute does not stop elements from being keyboard accessible, so the JavaScript developer has to not only set this attribute, but also turn off keyboard access on the greyed out page to create a full modal window experience. The test page here does not do this (does not turn off any keyboard access) so that we can test the effects of aria-hidden.
